Annual AAWL Elections (Board Only)

Please take notice that the Board of Directors of the Anchorage Association of Women Lawyers, LTD. (“AAWL”), will be meeting on December 6, 2016, starting at 12:00 p.m., Alaska Standard Time. During this meeting, the Board will hold an election to fill seven (7) positions on the Board of Directors, with terms expiring the following years:
                 • One (1) Board position expiring in December 2017
                 • One (1) Board position expiring in December 2018
                 • Five (5) Board positions expiring in December 2019

Members of AAWL who are interested in serving on the Board shall submit a letter of interest no later than 5:00 p.m., Alaska Standard Time, on November 19, 2016, to Martha Tansik at mtt@bpk.com confirming membership in AAWL, and stating your area of practice, years of experience, and employer. Letters of interest submitted after this deadline will not be considered.

Per AAWL's Bylaws, in order to become an AAWL member, you must (1) be a licensed or retired attorney, judge, judicial law clerk, law student, or holder of a J.D.; (2) be a resident of or hold a bar license in the State of Alaska; and (3) pay the annual membership fee. To be eligible for Board membership, you must also (4) be female or identify as female, (5) commit to regularly attend Board meetings and AAWL events, and (6) commit to actively and continuously serve on at least one AAWL committee.

The election to the Board of Directors shall be by secret ballot. The ballots will contain the names of each of the candidates for the Board of Directors who submitted a letter of interest and who meet the qualifications provided in the AAWL Bylaws. The Directors shall cast their votes on the official ballot at the meeting on December 6, 2016, or on the official proxy forms, which will be distributed to each sitting Board member at least one (1) week before the election meeting.

Only Board members may attend the election meeting. AAWL members will be notified of the election results within five (5) business days of the December 6, 2016, Board meeting. If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact Martha Tansik at (907) 276-6100.
