Packing Your Briefcase: Ethical Exits and New Beginnings
AAWL invites you to attend its annual in-person ethics CLE this December 12th at the Williwaw Social (609 F St., Anchorage, AK 99501). Doors open at 4:00, and the CLE presentation will run from 4:30-6:00 pm. Attendees will enjoy heavy appetizers and non-alcoholic drinks, courtesy of our generous sponsors, Perkins Coie, Davis Wright Tremaine and Cashion Gilmore & Lindemuth. We hope you will join us for what promises to be an engaging discussion on the ethics of changing employment by panelists Senior Justice Dana Fabe, Phil Shanahan, and Jahna Lindemuth, moderated by Renee Wardlaw. Attendees are eligible for 1.5 Ethics Credits.

Despite the fact that many attorneys are routinely exposed to the highly traumatic experiences of our clients, not much attention is paid to the toll of secondary traumatic stress on our profession. Other workplace stressors, such as heavy caseloads and lack of support, can combine to make the strain even worse. We will discuss support strategies from both an individual and organizational perspective, to help guard against, and heal from, the effects of secondary trauma and toxic stress.

About our guest: Amy Wood, Psy.D., is a Maine-based psychologist specializing in attorney wellness. She recently presented a CLE for the Alaska Bar Association on overcoming burnout. Her upcoming book, Lawyer Like an Athlete, will be published by the ABA in 2024.

"Non-Binary" Gender Issues in Employment Law
Faith Rose, Associate General Counsel of Doyon, Limited, will provide us with an introduction to the developing area of sex & gender discrimination and how it is impacting employment law and workplace relationships. This presentation will go over some basic concepts and terminology for individuals identifying outside the gender binary of "male/female," discuss changing social viewpoints, strategies for managing legal risk, and creating fair and respectful workplaces. In Part One, Certified Financial Planner, Jelena Radvanji, from the offices of Baird, the Planning Group of the Northwest, will discuss the important of financial planning in uncertain times such as the COVID-19 pandemic, setting long term financial goals, and establishing financial plans.
In Part Two in April, Ms. Radvanji will focus on the importance of the savings rate for retirement and the unique challenges that women face in saving for retirement.
